A Shade of Vampire Book Review

AMY~
I had the opportunity to read the book A Shade of Vampire written by Bella Forrest.  From the title of the book and reading a book with shades of another color I had my reservations about the kind of book I was getting into.  I was pleasantly surprised that this book was really well written and I enjoyed how the author was able to write from two different viewpoints to give you the whole story.  When I finished, I was left wanting to know more about Sofia, Derek, Ben, Vivienne, Lucas and the Shade.

Being an English major in college and having a teaching degree I really enjoyed this story and would say it is appropriate for high school age students to read.  I loved the character development and how the sexual aspect of many books like this was subtle but not blatant in your face.  I have also had a weird fascination with Vampires and their life, and I enjoy the vampire movies.  This book started off reminding me of some of the movies I have seen but then took on a different aspect and really drew me in to the world of the Shade and the story unfolding between vampire and human.  I really don't want to say much more as this is a book and reading it through is half the fun!

Description:

On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.  A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.  An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other
girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

Recommendation:  Definitely worth the money for the story, I wish it was longer as it only took me about an hour and a half uninterrupted time to read.  This is really well written and story development is really good.  I am definitely going to get the second book in this series when it is available.
