Gummy Lump Let's Play House! Grocery Basket with Play Food Review and Giveaway

play food wooden toys puzzles blocks giant stuffed animals
So my kids love to pretend play and their favorite thing to play besides dress-up is grocery store.  We have little shopping carts and we've been using old food containers to stock their store.  This opportunity came up to review "Let's Play House! Grocery Basket with Play Food" made by Melissa and Doug and sent from the company GummyLump.com.

GummyLump.com is a company that I only just heard of and their website is amazing.  They have a variety of different play activities and toys for all kinds of play for children.  The sight reminds me of all the products I find in the different magazines that come to my work (as a director of a before and after school program), with much more reasonable prices.  I like that you can shop by age of child or by their interest, or even if they have special needs.  The site is very easy to navigate and find what you are looking for.

The Melissa and Doug "Let's Play House! Grocery Basket with Play Food" was an instant hit with the kids when I opened it up.  They immediately were taking turns over who got to use the basket first and who was the cashier.  What I liked about this product is that the cans of food had plastic lids that could be removed to pretend to pour into a pan or feed someone.  This is something that most play food products forget, children want to open up the pretend play boxes or cans like they see mommy or daddy do in the kitchen.  These boxes and cans are cardboard so they will hold up to use with a toddler or older child, but I am not sure how it would hold up to a younger child who would chew on cardboard.
The basket is just as good as any metal one you would use at the grocery store.  Very heavy duty and will stand up to just about anything.  The only downside I found to this product was the packaging.  It was extremely hard to open and I have to cut away most of the hard plastic keeping everything in place, however, I did have to leave some of the plastic on the sides of the basket, because I couldn't get it off.  This didn't affect the play of the toy, but did leave sharp hard plastic on a toy that young kids were playing with.  Luckily, the plastic was able to be taken off and now everything is safe for the children to play with.

Cost/Available to Purchase:  $15.99 Pretend Grocery Basket with Play Food http://www.gummylump.com/p/grocery-basket-and-play-food-toy
Recommendation:  I would recommend this product to anyone who has little ones that like to play grocery store or in a kitchen.  This product will stand the test of time that my children will use it for.  Just be sure to have a knife to open the hard plastic.  For a Melissa and Doug Product (which normally, I think, run really high in price) this website has great prices for the products that they carry.
