Haven: A Stranger Magic Book Review

So it's no secret that I love to read and enjoy doing so quite frequently.  Since I received my tablet I have read more books in the last 5 months than when I was in college and had assigned reading for all my reading classes combined (as an English major that's quite a lot).  When I was given the opportunity to review the book, "Haven a Stranger Magic" by D.C. Akers I was really excited.
The premise of the book is one of magic and mystery based in a small town.  This book draws you in and captures your attention.  The ease of reading it and how you get to know Sam and Sarah and their characters are developed is so well that you really feel you get to know them.  I enjoy this fantasy/fiction genre and really wanted to get to know Sam, Travis and Sarah and the mysteries that they uncover.

The premise of the book is about a single mother raising her two teenage children in a small little town.  Sam and his older sister Sarah constantly fight like siblings usually do.  When weird things start happening for both children, they are scared to tell anyone for fear of not being believed.  Whenever Sarah gets really angry strange things begin to happen and around the same time Sam notices a stranger learking in the dark near a tree across the street.  When Sam and his best friend Travis take their monthly trip to the caves they discover a new tunnel and they couldn't not be prepared for what happened inside the caves that day.

Recommendation:  The only thing I did not like about this book is that the way it ended (I realize this is a series)  but it felt abrupt.  It seemed as if someone wrote a story and then wanted to make it into a series and so just picked a chapter to stop book 1 at.  It left me feeling like it should have ended a chapter earlier or a few chapters later. However, I am looking forward to the second book in the series to find out what happens with all the characters.

  2. Sounds like a book I would love to read, but I think I will also get the next book so I can keeping reading without being abrupt about the ending. I don't want to feel like I have to wait for an ending. Then I will get the third before I finish reading the second and so on.

  3. Haven: A Stranger Magic Book sounds interesting. I like books that are mystery. Although I would agree with you that I dont care for books that just abruptly stop and end.

  4. Haven: A Stranger Magic Book sounds like an interesting book. I love books that have a mystery twist to them. I would agree with you that I usually dont care for series of books, because of the way they abruptly stop or end the book and leave you hanging to purchase the next series. I would have to give this one a look at. Thanks for sharing.

  5. I think I would enjoy reading Haven: A Stranger Magic Book. Your review said it was about a single mother raising her two teenage children. This interest me because their are so many mothers raising their children alone. That is a hard road to travel. thank you BL
