2014 Kia Optima Hybrid EX Review

Kia Motors America
When someone first says the words "Hybrid Vehicle", I think of the plug in, itty bitty, cars you see every so often driving around town.  I think the idea behind a hybrid is amazing and headed in the right direction.  Then the words also make me think of something that is costly and much more work than it's worth in the long run.  That was until I was given the opportunity to review the 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid EX.

The 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid EX is definitely in a class of it's own in my opinion.  Starting with it's sleek and sporty look and finishing with two system hybrid flexibility.  Not only is the exterior designed with style in mind, it's got features like side airflow vents which help air pass through the body more freely and reducing drag.

It has Solor Controlled Glass so before you even enter the car, it has reduced the interior heat built up on sunny days.  The interior design of the seats might remind an engineer like me of racing bucket seats but it's comfort says something completely different.  With heated and cooled seats throughout, it doesn't matter where in the world you live, you are going to be comfortable.

With a Panoramic Sunroof and power sunshade, you can enjoy cruising on a beautiful day.  The push start has your car ready to rock the minute you jump in it!  The first thing I noticed (or better yet couldn't notice) is the silence when starting the car.  I had to triple check I had started the vehicle correctly it was so quiet and smooth.  There is a Rear Camera Display and Backup Warning System, so you can keep an eye out as you back up for more than just moving objects (children, grocery carts) but possible bikes parked behind you or even trees or barriers.

All of the safety features come standard with both models which is comforting to know Kia has you and your families safety in mind.  Included in these safety features are Front and rear 3-Point Seat Belts, 4 Wheel ABS, reinforced steel beams in every door for side impact precaution, Impact-Absorbing Steering Column, Internal Emergency Trunk Release, and so much more.

There are airbags throughout (front advanced, front side, and full length side curtain) as well as Front and Rear Crumple Zones to protect you in case of an accident.  And for the families with small children, "Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) is a universal child seat attachment system that allows for quick, easy and secure installation and removal of LATCH equipped child seats."

Using a smart system, the 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid EX switches from electric motor to 2.4-liter 4-cylinder MPI engine depending directly on your driving.  "The Virtual Engine Sound System mimics the sound you would normally hear if you were driving a gas powered vehicle."  You literally have the best of both worlds in this vehicle and regardless of where or how much you drive, you are going to get there efficiently and in style!

Available to Purchase/Cost: Starting at $25,995 Kia Optima Hybrid 2014
Recommendation:  This is an awesome vehicle with everyone in mind.  While it is spacious both in the front and back, I would recommend to a couple or single since it is more of a sporty vehicle practical for the smaller family.  The safety features are there and the pricing of the vehicle is very reasonable especially for a hybrid option.  I think this has been my favorite of the Kia's so far!! With this Kia, you can have your cake and eat it too!
