Disney's Descendants DVD Review

Because we are such a big movie family and huge into the Disney channel, I knew the kids would definitely enjoy the newly released Disney's Descendants.  I was actually not into seeing it myself at first as I figured it would be a cheesy children's show with nothing of interest to any adult.  But with such an all-star cast it really is hard to go wrong.  Disney released Descendants to DVD on July 31st, 2015!

The synopsis says "In a present day idyllic kingdom, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic “Beauty and the Beast”) is poised to take the throne.  His first proclamation:  offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella de Vil, Maleficent the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters.

These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes, including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan.  However, the evil teens face a dilemma.  Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?"

We as a family love the classic Disney movies in general, so it was cute to see a spin off of them.  Everyone always wonders what happens after the movie ends, well here it is!  Dane and Alana had fun watching Descedants as did I, even with all the singing.  We felt like this was a musical for all ages.  The songs are super cute and catchy playing in our house all weekend long it seems.

From the same director as High School Musical which Alana was obsessed with for a number of years, and with the same characters both her and Dane love from their daily shows.  Of course we all fell in love with this movie very easily.  It's been playing non-stop since it arrived three days ago.  It was a heart warming story of how to "not judge a book by its cover".  I truly appreciate the story line especially before the kiddos head back to school and potentially deal with similar situations in real life!

Recommendation:  I would recommend this for anyone at any age and especially for families.  It would even make a great gift to someone for the Back to School season!  There are parts of the movie that appeal to all personalities with some genuine lessons kids can relate to in real life!
