The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Review

We recently went to see the Nutcracker and the Four Realms at the theater with our two boys and loved it!  I thought it was a unique take on the classical Nutcracker with both a dark and uplifting plot.  So we knew we couldn't wait to watch it again on DVD.  The Nutcracker and the Four Realms releases on January 29th, 2019 on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray™ and DVD plus to Digital and Movies Anywhere.  Bonus features including: On Pointe: A Conversation with Misty Copeland, Unwrapping “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” - Dive into the production, Deleted Scenes, and Music Videos.

In the spirit of Clara in The Nutcracker and the Four Realms and Kid Inventors' Day (January 17th), I was also sent over a really awesome Snow Globe Making Kit.  With this week being a cold and snowy one for us, the kids have been home for a few snow days.  It was perfect time to have some creative, crafting fun.  While this was a two day project, it was a blast designing our own special world which we could make our own and admire anytime.

The synopsis says "In “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” Clara travels along a golden thread, presented at Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual party, eagerly searching for a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a music box that holds a priceless gift. When she enters a mysterious parallel world, Clara encounters a Nutcracker soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and three Realm regents, including the Sugar Plum Fairy (Keira Knightley). Ultimately, she must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve the key and return harmony to the unstable world."

Think along the lines of Alice in Wonderland type of storyline although a bit more dramatic.  My younger son (8) said it was "the best movie he had ever seen" which says quite a bit considering he won't sit through most movies and especially in a theater because of the sound.  My older son (10) said he really liked the twists and thought it was a good movie too.  I thought it was creative how the actual nutcracker ballet was incorporated into the movie as well so I was able to give my children an insight into the world of ballet's.  We enjoyed all the detailed costumes and sets.  Even though this is a fictional story, the story of Clara's imagination is quite believable when dealing with such a traumatic event.
