PanGrill-it Review



     So you know we are big entertainers and quite the partiers in my household.  We love preparing all sorts of food and drinks for people in our home to enjoy.  We are also a huge grilling family.  Although Michigan doesn't allow for a long summer season, you will find us grilling six out of seven nights and from the first remotely warm day (above 60 degrees outside) to the first day of snow if we can.  The food just tastes better and lets be honest it is much more fun to enjoy a nice day outside then cooped up indoors.

     What do you do if you don't have the space for a large grill because you live in an apartment or you don't have the money to spend on some expensive fancy grill?  Well, what if you didn't have to wait for the warm weather to get that awesome grill taste?!  Recently at a local cooking show I discovered a new gadget that can give you that taste without spending all the money or waiting half the year to go outside (depending on where you live).  "The PanGrill-it™ is a NEW!, One of kind, Commercial grade, USA Quality inspected, Pre-seasoned, Cast iron BBQ Grill Insert designed to fit in a 12” skillet or place on commercial flat top grills."
     Although it has been a while since I've cooked on cast iron, I used to love it.  I had to borrow a skillet from my friend to try this new kitchen tool out since I couldn't find mine.  One of the really awesome things about PanGrill-it™ is that there is no need to pre-treat the cast iron with an oil or butter.  Cooking with cast iron has many advantages.  "Iron deficiency noted by experts is one of the most common dietary deficiencies. Cooking in cast iron products can add significant amounts of iron to your food and body as proven in various studies and published articles in the Journal of Food Science."
     For my first use with the pangrillit, I decided to cook a Hawaiian chicken.  This way I could test out its ability to grill both a meat and pineapple (which I love).  Now I did marinate my chicken as it thawed prior to grilling but I DID NOT pre-treat the grill insert.  I was hoping to test if it truly was pretreated and if my meat when properly cooked would peel apart from sticking.  Because I forgot to see where our gas level was, I was able to test this out on both the grill and my stove top.  As you can see my chicken browned to a perfect golden with beautiful grill marks and my pineapple stayed in tact with the same grill marks. 

     PanGrill-it™ also cleans very easily, all you need to do is let it cool completely. Then scrub with a Bristol or Nylon brush with warm water (no need for soap) and wipe dry.  After you will want to "apply your favorite cooking oil, sprinkle with salt (granulated salt works best) warm the skillet, and then wipe clean with paper towel" to prepare for your next cooking delight.  PanGrill-it™ can also be used to grill panini’s, grilled cheese, sausage/brats/burgers, french or garlic toast, veges, burritos and really anything you can think of.  Small enough the pangrillit can be taken almost anywhere to use for tailgating or camping and makes for a really great alternative for healthy cooking.  Now I feel forced to go out and buy myself another cast iron skillet so I can use this all the time!

Recommendation:  These can be used at home or while camping/tailgating and make food delicious without all the cost.  My only complaint is that there aren't different sizes available for different size skillets.  I would love to try the grill press next as I have wanted one of these since working in the restaurants.  I'd like to see a package deal available to buy all three - the griddle/skillet, PanGrill-it™ and the grill press.  Price is absolutely reasonable for something this heavy duty and high quality.
