Nesco Gardenmaster Digital Pro Food Dehydrator Review and #Giveaway

I love to cook.  That should be fairly obvious at this point in our blogging relationship.  I love to eat as well especially when it is something made from scratch.  As you also know I hate to waste anything!  I try to waste as little as possible when cooking and utilize the scraps in my compost or in any other way I can think of.

FD-1040 Gardenmaster Digital Pro Food Dehydrator
For the last ten years at least I have thought about getting a dehydrator to use in my kitchen.  I figure it would be one of the more frequently used items in my home.  When the company Nesco agreed to work with me on completing a review of one of their dehydrators I was pretty pumped.  I was send over their Gardenmaster Digital Pro Food Dehydrator.

Now this is the queen of dehydrators as not only is this one expandable to 20 trays but it has a Digitally Controlled top unit fan.   Having the fan on top helps keep liquids from dripping into the heater chamber.  Because this dehydrator has a 2,400 RPM motor, it is able to dry 4x faster than other dryers.

"Patented Converga-Flow® forces heated air down the exterior pressurized chamber, then horizontally across each individual tray, converging in the center, for fast, even and nutritious drying."  And with "1000 watts drying power means you can dry more, faster. No flavor mixing! No need for tray rotation."

I personally love the adjustable thermostat with the digital timer.  This way I can dehydrate a variety of items from the herbs from my garden to the abundance of fruits I buy at the farmers markets to savory jerky for my husband and boys!

With a Vita-Save® Exterior, light in blocked "to retain more of the food's nutrients and vitamins during the drying process." Several accessories are included with this dehydrator including No-Spill Fruit Roll Sheet, Clean-A-Screen®, Jerky Spice Packet and Cure.

One of the things I love to do with things like apple skins and orange peels, is dry them out to make potpourri!  This has become a much easier and quicker process not to mention it uses less energy than trying to run my oven for hours!  My children also love dried fruit chips and this is a much healthier way for my children to enjoy the snacks they love!

Available to purchase/Cost:  $149 Gardenmaster Digital Pro Food Dehydrator
Recommendation:  Get one!  Nesco has all sorts of high quality appliances for the everyday home and all at reasonable prices.  This dehydrator is great especially for those who garden or possibly hunt!

  15. I think this is fantastic! I think what you said about waste is so important and true. I have purchased fruit, bananas for instance, that ripen much quicker than I expected and this would be ideal to use. Food prices are only going up and I would love to preserve some long lasting staples.

I'm currently craving gummy bears and potato chips, and if I can learn to dehydrate fruits and veggies instead to be my snack, it'll be a great first start to a healthy family lifestyle. :)

  42. What a great idea to make potpourri with citrus peel! I can already smell it. When I was a kid we used to put fresh clementine peel on our heater which was a large stove -- I doubt they make those anymore -- what a great smell.

  44. i would love this. over the last few years my garden has grown to healthy 25'x50', plus strawberry patch and fruit bushes. I have learned to can the produce for preserving. I think it would be great to learn to dehydrate to preserve fruits , veggies and even meat! The more I can do at home, the better of my family will be

  45. I have an older model of this one, and it still works great. I use it for many things, including making organic fruit leather for my grandsons, but the most common way I use it is to make chicken breast jerky treats for our pets. I just slice thawed breasts and dry them, then keep them in the freezer in a zipper bag. Freezing isn't required for dried foods, but that way there is no chance of mold and the meat is still very fresh tasting for the ferrets, cat and dogs. No worries here about all the poisoning problems in dog and cat treats we read about in the paper regularly.

I haven't tried jerky for humans in this one because I also have a large dryer, but I'm sure it would work fine.

  46. Forgot to add, kale chips and zucchini chips are healthy and went over big with the grandboys. Add a little sea salt to make them taste great!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I would love to dry fruit, garlic, onions, and meat. I have looked at various dehydrators and into making my own, but winning this would make the decision for me!

  48. This dehydrator is deluxe! I am amazed at all of the bells and whistles, particularly the fact that it makes dehydrating food so easy and trouble free! The digital fan control and trays that don't have to be rotated, combined with the speed at which things get done, makes it fun and easy to try dehydrating all kinds of things.

  49. I had a food dehydrator, but it didn't have a digitally controlled top unit fan. Actually it didn't have a fan at all. When Nesco included the fan on their Nesco Gardenmaster Digital Pro it made me a fan. I know that anything that I would dehydrate would be much appreciated by my family & easier for me to do thanks to this innovation.

  50. I love this dehydrator.I love the Digitally Controlled top unit fan. There are so many fruits and veggies I could dehydrate to preserve in my garden.

  51. It would be nice to be able to do something other than freeze and can all the berries and fruits from my garden. I love adding dried fruits to my oatmeal, yogurt and cereal and knowing where they came from and how they were made is much better than wondering about hidden sugars in the stuff from the store.

  52. I love that this has a timer. I actually have a dehydrator now, and I love it, but I have to time it to make sure that I don't have to wake up in the middle of the night to turn it off!

    ReplyDelete
  53. My whole family would love it. My son is Diabetic type 1 and has Celiacs can not eat gluten so all natural whole food are the best for him to eat so this helps so much in making him food that he would enjoy.

  63. I use my old dehydrator to make chicken jerky for our pets. I have read about all the dogs and cats that have died from eating snacks made in China. This way I know exactly what they are getting. And the dried chicken addition to their diet has improved the health of our ferrets greatly.
