Purchasing a New Mattress That's Best for US

Everyone sleeps right!?  But everyone sleeps differently.  Sleep is an essential part of all living creatures and each of us want to make sure we are sleeping comfortably.  There are so many things to consider about our bedding and how it affects us and the sleep we get.  When it comes to sleeping, I have discovered a few things the older I get:

1. Your body does care about what it sleeps on the older you get. You can't sleep on floors like children do; You can't pass out on a couch like you did in college; You can't fall asleep at a desk or on top of a laptop pulling an all-nighter for school or work, like you've probably done in the past. A mattress is an essential tool for sleeping at any age, but a necessity for those past the previously listed points in someone's life.

2. There is more to sleep and mattresses than just comfort. There are factors to consider like temperature, airflow, the physical makeup of the core, chemicals used throughout the process, vulnerability to allergens, and of course thickness/firmness/size.

3. You truly cannot put a price on comfort.  You all know I am all about saving money and finding a great deal, but as with everything I have discovered over time, you get what you pay for.  Taking the time to research and making an educated purchase no matter what the dollar amount, is going to result in getting your moneys worth from the get go.

So, I realized that while saying all of this to Kevin, I have known we were in need of a new mattress.  Not only are we getting older, but we are noticing much more easily how products like this can affect us.  We toss and turn throughout the night;  We are too hot or too cold regardless of weather outside; We constantly wake up sore; And most importantly we have noticed different allergies, sicknesses, and reactions to our current nights rest.

I recently let you all know I would be searching out the perfect mattress and wanted to share the process from start to finish with every one.  This way you know and understand that this is more than just your average product review but a real life struggle to find that "perfect sleep"

We have spent TONS of hours searching online and in stores for a mattress that works for both Kevin and I (not our co-sleeping kids who need to get OUT of our bed)!  Being that I currently live in a busy suburb area of Eastern Michigan, finding a few (or a dozen) mattress stores has not been an issue as we've driven up and down the main highway on several occasions visiting each mattress specific store as well as your furniture stores like Art Van which is extremely popular here.

We have laid on the following types of mattresses:  Air, Futon, Innerspring, Latex, Memory Foam, and even Water.  We researched and/or tested the following brands:  Comfort King, Tempflow, ComforPedic King Koil, Ikea, Sealy Posturepedic, Serta, Bassett, Simmons Beautyrest, Innova Sleep, Sleep Innov/Novaform, Naturepedic, Sleep Number, AmeriSleep, Sleep Science, Tempur-Pedic, Savvy Rest, Thomasville, and probably a ton more.

I have to say that Tempur-Pedic seems to be the standard for excellence in the industry, but I wanted to do deeper research that went beyond brand recognition, so I also read through the various online reviews and ratings, as well as this Tempurpedic mattress review and comparison article that not only gave some more incite into memory foam, but compared a Tempflow memory foam mattress side by side with a Tempurpedic.

What did we think of each and which one did we choose?  Find out soon....

  1. You are definitely right about your body caring about what it sleeps on as you get older! When I was younger, I never uttered the words "I slept wrong last night. My back/neck/arm hurts." Now, I do that all the time!
