Mavea Home Water Filtration Pitcher Review and Giveaway

Profile Picture

When we first moved into our house two years ago, we had to make a ton of changes not only to our lifestyle but to the home itself.  One of the first things I checked into was the water.  I unfortunately consider myself to be quite a water snob.  I drink at least ten glasses a day and absolutely will not drink tap water.  I am even picky about the types of bottled water I enjoy.  Well needless to say the refridgerators water filtration system just plain sucked as it was not up to my standards and there was no way to replace it without replacing the whole fridge which wasn't an option at the time.

So the next best thing to buying tons of water bottles / jugs was of course a different type of filtration system such as a self filtering pitcher.  This has just become an absolutely annoying task with how much water i go through in a day to constantly have to be refilling and replacing filters.  So when I discover Mavea and their unique designs I was definitely willing to give their system a try.
Mavea is a company with a variety of water filtration products.  I love the fact that in order to fill the pitcher I dont have to pull off or unscrew something to remove a lid.  This lessens my constant filling annoyance.  Mavea's lid has a bobble piece that allows water to easily flow through and then shuts when there is no water Pressure forcing it down.  I also love that not only does the lid tell you when your filter needs to be replaced but it keeps track of where you are in the replacemnt stage (ex. 25%, 50%).  So I can predict when I need to head out to get another filter.  Another wonderful part about the pitcher is the fact that the digital reader can be removed and every other part can be put into the dishwasher.  This is AWESOME since my other pitchers and jugs easily build up mold and who knows what other sorts of bacteria.  Now I dont have to worry as much about cleaning the pitcher either.

Although there are a ton of things I loved about my Mavea pitcher, there were a few dislikes.  When first setting up my pitcher it recommends you submerge the filter for 20 seconds in order to clean any loose carbon or air bubbles out.  Well I submerged mine for well over that time frame and then some.  To be honest I had to soak mine over night to get the water to stop coming out grey.  This made me so weary of what the final taste would be like and almost scared me away.  BUT all in all the water tasted fine after the 24 hour waiting period.  My second complaint is the stylish curved design of the lid and the handle actually hurts the efficiency of its potential to properly hold water.  If you fill the top portion over half full water leaks everywhere out the handle because of how it is curved.  This stinks because it adds time back into my filtering process since I have to fill it less each time and then more frequently.
Cost:  Between $29.99-$39.99 Depending on where you purchase. Elemaris XL

Recommendation:  I did really like this water pitcher and all the great features.  Although I don't know that I'd pay the $30 bucks to buy another one unless they improved the handle design.  Otherwise this really will be a great product in the future!  I liked it much better than other name brands.
