Betty and Coretta -Lifetime Original Movie DVD Review

        So when you hear the names Martin Luther King Jr. or Malcolm X we all have images and thoughts or even memories that these names are associated with.  What some of us don’t realize is there is a story of the women behind these great men.

        On June 11, 2013, Lifetime Channel released the amazing story of Betty & Coretta on DVD! This Lifetime Movie Channel Original includes popular actors like Golden Globe Award-winner and Academy Award-nominee Angela Bassett and nine-time Grammy-winner Mary J. Blige.

        The synopsis says "This Lifetime Original Movie tells the story of Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz, wives of Martin Luther Jing Jr. and Malcolm X respectively.  Originally aired in February for Black History Month, Betty and Coretta will arrive on DVD on June 11. The film celebrates the strength and dignity of the two women after their husbands’ assassinations and highlights their unique friendship. Carrying on the civil rights movement and supporting their families as single mothers, Betty and Coretta became role models for millions of women with their unending dedication and passion."

        Betty and Coretta were married respectively to their husbands and had to deal with their assassinations and being single mothers, and also left with carrying on their late husband's legacy.  The Lifetime original movie Betty and Coretta shows the life that these two women faced, their friendship and dedicated work to fulfilling their husbands quest for equality and civil rights movements.

        The actresses in this movie really capture the essence of these wonderful ladies and with the quality of movie it should have been at the theater and not just a Lifetime movie.  This is truly one of those touching movies that motivates you to do more after watching it!

Recommendation:  Now I thought this was a cute movie!  Yes a little slow moving maybe for someone Alana's age but I thought it was very realistic and I could see this happening to just about any one of my friends (or even possibly myself if I wasn't already married)!
