Do any of us really realize how many of the things we use each day that are not only harmful to the earth but ourselves and our loved ones?  People may not have lived longer lives a couple hundred years ago but in my opinion they lived happier and healthier lives.  Change doesn't happen over night and you'll kill yourself if you try to get rid of everything potentially harmful in one day.  What you can do is promise yourself to make one change a month, a week, or even a day if your real ambitious (but only one).

My first priority in the last six years has been making these changes for my children.  This can be in the things they use/touch daily or things that I use/touch that directly affect them.  I am always trying to turn each activity together into a teaching point.  We need to start young teaching our children how to be self sufficient and how to take care of this planet so it will be around for generations to come.  When Edda USA asked me to review a new book from Disney’s Mickey and Friends Collection, "Go Green! A Family Guide to a Sustainable Lifestyle", I was pretty excited to share it with the kids!

The synopsis says, "The first in a new brand series, Go Green! is not only a guide for families to take steps towards transforming their lives to live a healthier, greener and more sustainable lifestyle, it also explains sustainability in a simple and fun way, putting the concept into perspective for children and families by showing easy and fun ways of making sustainable choices.

Jam-packed with fun facts, tips and unique green activities, Go Green! takes readers through detailed green practices that include: understanding your ecological footprints; the three R’s of sustainability (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle); creating seasonal crafts; the importance of eating locally; how to grow your own organic garden; and so much more.

Further, the book explains that adopting a sustainable lifestyle will not happen overnight. It starts with one step, then another, and another. The important thing is to remember that you are on your way, no matter how slow the journey feels, or how difficult the steps. Go Green! breaks down this complicated process into easy-to-achieve individual steps for the whole family."

You all know me and how I feel about everything being as green friendly as possible so the book was an obvious enjoyment for me.  The book discusses everything in child-like terms making it easier to understand the "Why's".  Dane and Declan love taking part in the enthusiasm our family shares doing our part for the planet.  They share their feelings quite frequently with others when it comes to the environment and it makes me the proudest mother alive!!

  1. These are awesome tips on being green and make such a huge impact on our world. I believe everyone should go green. I wish we had solar panels but I don’t. Although i am starting my own challenge. I am not longer using plastic bags. I will see how i last for a week then i will try to make it a habit to not use a single plastic bag. It is harder than it looks.
    Thanks for the chance!
