CompoKeeper Kitchen Compost Bin Review and #Giveaway

As you all might already know I am an avid worm composter.  I absolutely love my worms and all they do for me!  Not only do I feel like I am recycling even more than just the basics but since starting the worm compost five years ago, my garden has been amazingly more fruitful!  Our landfills are taking over the planet and we each need to do our part to reduce our eco-footprint, recycle everything possible, and reuse anything left over.

While composting itself is easy and especially with worms because essentially both do the work themselves, it can still be a bit of a pain depending on where you decide to compost and how.  I usually don't like to take the food out to the worm unless I have a larger amount.  But of course who likes leaving old food on the counter for too long.  It can start to smell and even attract fruit flies.

Honestly, if you've done the research like I have, the worms won't eat your food until it has molded in a bit and turned pretty nasty.  So in researching other options I came across the brand CompoKeeper and it couldn't have been a better time.  This week is National Compost Awareness Week!  The CompoKeeper is a uniquely designed trash can with composting in mind.  The goal is to give the everyday home and person easy and organized access to composting.

I was given an opportunity to review the CompoKeeper in White.  Using a design with two interlocking clamps, the smells are sealed inside.  There is a carbon filter which also helps with absorbing the odors.  There are two pedals for easy opening and closing (instead one which snaps shut when you aren't ready to close).  There is also a tote inside which helps avoid getting your floors dirty in case of a leaky bag.

I know this is going to sound odd but I love using the Compostable Bags as they feel so different from that of a normal trash bag.  The softness and different texture almost makes it easier to understand why these are better for the planet than the plastic most people use for their waste.  The CompoKeeper bags are certified 100% compostable and certified GMO-free.

I've added this right into my kitchen at the end of the counter and feel like it's worked great so far!  I've noticed no smells and no flies.  I did notice that after about a week and a half the bag started to sweat from all the food which to me meant it was beginning its breaking down process.  I was able to pack things together and put in a separate bin outside to use in my regular compost OR easily add it to my worm compost.

Available to purchase/Cost:  $99.50 CompoKeeper Kitchen Compost Bin
Recommendation: I love that this comes in four different colors so you can match it to your own personal style.  Of course I love the bags and am sold on them for sure especially knowing they can be autoshipped!  The cost of the CompoKeeper is very reasonable when you look at all the extras it comes with and that it is going to last a long time!

  1. For sure veggies! I get a bi-weekly co-op box from our local farmers, and I tend to have way too much. I try to use what I can and give away what's left, but sometimes I just can't get through it all!
