Leeners Quick Cheese Kit Review and Giveaway

Leeners / You-Make-Kit(TM) logo

A couple weeks ago Kevin and I started looking at some new ideas to help our family financially.  This all started when we were looking for homes and really got a little excited about some farm land we discovered.  Since then we have unfortunately decided to wait until next summer to shop for a new home however, it motivated us to save money in creative ways.  It also motivated me to utilize my surroundings and become even more eco friendly than I already was.  One of the first things that of course popped into my head was making my own ANYTHING!
ricotta cheese
When it comes to learning how to do make your own products or start kits, the place to look is Leeners.  They have every kit from brewing beer, wine, and sake to making yogurt, cheese, and bread.  Leeners Kits include anything you can imagine as well as all sorts of canning supplies, condiments, and childrens kits.

Thankfully we were sent the quick cheese making kit because this household loves their cheese of all kinds.  In fact at my most recent trip to the Lucky Leaf Orchards, I met an amazing fellow blogger who makes her own cheese from her cow's milk and I've been telling her I need to fly her out here to show me how to make all these great foods.  Check her out when you get the chance over at Cooke's Frontier.  When I first received the kit I was a little skeptical about how it might turn out since I am by no means a pro at this.

I have got to tell you these were very easy step by step directions.  The best part is Alana (only 14 y.o.) made our first batch of cheese on her own.  She decided to go with the fresh mozzarella since we all enjoy it.  And even when I thought maybe she wouldn't quite following the directions perfectly, everything seemed to flow into the next step without feeling rushed or confused (as you see we have tons of pics).

Now Alana said she was pretty grossed out by the smell which I expected but it really wasn't too bad.  It's not like our house smelled like spoiled milk or anything.  I think she was just weirded out by the curdling of the milk and the process in which it becomes cheese.

Ending verdict - fantastic!  Because this kit include more than enough to make TONS of batches of your favorite cheese, its much cheaper than buying a log of fresh mozzarella (or any of the other cheeses if you chose a different kind).  All you need is a gallon of milk for this recipe.

Cost:  $14.95 Quick Cheese Kit
Available to purchase:  Leeners
Recommendation:  I totally loved this and all the other kits!  I think $15 is beyond reasonable for a MYO kit as well.  I hope to continue working with Leeners in the future so I can share with you some of their other kits!  If not I will be purchasing a few myself in the future!
