How To Build a Greener Dream Home

*Read my Disclosure
One of the most important reasons people choose to build or renovate their home is to personalize it to meet their needs. Many home builders specialize in ways to incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable building practices. Sustainable building practices are products or techniques designed to reduce a building’s impact on its global and local environment. Here are some ways you can incorporate green building practices into your home renovation or building process.

5 Renewable Energy Sources

*Read my Disclosure
Earth harbors many different species of life. There are millions of plants and animals that have called this planet home for billions of years and many more, including humans, that will continue to reside here well into the future. Due to the longevity of the planet, people tend to treat its resources as though they are unlimited, which is far from the case. Forms of energy like oil, coal, natural gases, and nuclear power, once depleted, can't be replenished. Once consumed, these forms of energy also create gas emissions that are harmful to the atmosphere. There are however renewable resources that can be utilized to ensure that the planet remains a habitable place for its current and future occupants. Here are five sources of renewable energy that you can use today.

Waterhawk™ Smart Showerhead is Our Home Superhero

We recently moved into a new home and like anyone, we have begun making lots of changes to make the house "our home".  However, we aren't just personalizing it to be our own.  We knew this was our forever home which we were going to make as self sustainable and efficient as we could.  There are literally pages to our project list for each area of the house but we knew we wanted to start in the most "used" area of the home - the bathrooms.  Between having a houseful of boys and being a family of five, we feel our bathrooms are a key part of our home.

Grow like a Green Thumb Guru

Ever since I was a little girl, I have had an interest in the "green" lifestyle.  From my free spirit personality and love for the outdoors to my green thumb mother.  However, I've never claimed to have the same green thumb she does.  I've actually said for years that if it's edible, I can grow it.  Otherwise I leave the "other" plants and growing to my mother.  It doesn't have to be difficult though for those starting out or even those who feel struggle with certain aspects like I do.  The following brands and products have TRULY helped me grow bigger, stronger, and more fruitful gardens in the past few years.

Grow Oya Review #OyaGrown

In past years, I've grown this huge beautiful garden that produces some really great fruit and vegetables in the beginning of the year.  Then towards the end of the summer each year, I get busy spending my time with the kids or friends.  It never fails, I forget to water my plants one day, one day only and everything is down hill from there.  They each slowly begin to die or just don't end up the same for the rest of the season.

GE Lighting Home Makeover Review and #Giveaway

One of the first way's I feel like I learned to be more eco-conscious was through my light bulbs.  When, I was a single living on my own, it was through changing my light bulbs to the energy efficient one's that I started leaning the small ways I could make a difference for my planet.  Of course it wasn't until getting married and having children which I transformed into this tree huggin hippie!

Comfort Revolution The Hydraluxe Cool Case Review

Comfort Revolution
When Comfort Revolution contacted me to review The Hydraluxe Cool Case I was pretty excited as my husband it quite picky about how he sleeps. He constantly wakes up sweating like crazy in the middle of the night causing him to toss and turn all night long.  Then, of course this keeps me awake half the night.  I was thrilled to give something new a try!

Heat Storm Logan Portable Infrared Heater Review

Heat Storm Infrared Heaters
I have to first off start this review by making sure everyone knows I currently live in Michigan and although I lived down south for 2 years, I am a born and raised Michiganander.  It can get pretty freaking cold up here and we usually only get to enjoy a very short summer.  Being prepared for the winter season and cold weather is a non-negotiable living here.

$500 Tyent Water Ionizers Children's Sports #Giveaway

Now I don't know about you but my kids are extremely active!  They've been dying to start playing sports and are finally old enough to do so this Summer.  This kind of presents a problem for me as sports are not cheap.  Having two boys and a teenage girl can be quite costly when they are all active!  I also want to be sure they are staying hydrated and healthy in the warm weather when running crazy throughout the Summer!

Best Clothes Drying Rack Review and #Giveaway

Best Drying Rack
You know not only have I had a dream of living in the country being completely self sufficient for years, but I've made every attempt to live that way without the property and means just yet.  One of the odd things I miss from my childhood is having a close line in our backyard.  Even as a child I truly loved when my mother would air dry our clothes and sheets.

Friday

Mister Landscaper Micro-Sprinkler Landscape and Shrub Kit Review and #Giveaway

It's actually very interesting to me that I acquired my green thumb from my Mother but in a very different way.  She can grow any type of plant or flower better than any one I know whereas I will more than likely kill it.  But when it comes to edible plants, we are the complete opposite!  I can grow food like a pro farmer and her crops are pitiful.
